Abstract

Forms of comprehension and apprehension of sense and meaning of space and territory concepts have attracted the attention of countless theorists linked to the areas of tourism, geography, architecture and others. The same has happened with scholars of these areas in relation to forms of spatial expression and materialization of tourist phenomenon, particularly in contemporary urban spaces. Tourism cartographies and spatialties is a subject of research that directly and historically relates to tourism and geography areas, but whose study, previously divided and disciplinary, starts being conducted in a broader and more integrated manner. Many areas of knowledge have become interested by the theme and, more or less directly, involved with it, which shows the challenge and the relevance of shared knowledge production as well as the conduction of more democratic and inclusive researches and scientific events. This essay, constructed from notions of academic hospitality (PHIPPS, BARNETT, 2007) and epistemic ignorance (KUOKKANEN, 2008), analyses the experience of organization and operationalization of 5th Meeting of Hospitality and Tourism and of 1st International Seminar of Tourism Public Policies, promoted by Universidade Fluminese (UFF) Tourism Department and sees it as a unique opportunity for sharing ideas and promote effective interaction of different academic communities.
