Given the transformations seen in agrarian activities and the abandonment and degradation of rural buildings, taking into account the development of agritourism from a broader perspective and with the imminent need for making these buildings more adequate, the purpose of this study was to identify, characterize and analyze the sugar mills in the rural setting of the town of Areia-Paraíba. A diagnosis was made of the current condition of the buildings used in the production of molasses and cachaça for their adaptability to the needs of agro-industrial activities, according to legal requirements. The research developed is descriptive, evaluative and exploratory and used the standard technique for data collection and systematic observation during visits to the plantations. It was observed that a majority of the buildings have primitive construction systems of predominantly colonial architectural style. From the modifications made on them it can be seen that there has been a mischaracterization of style, which could interfere with the tourism potential of the region.Downloads
