The Canoe Holed: conditions and relations labor in the hosting sector in Canoa Quebrada (CE)

Abstract

The labor market of the tourism is characterized by the labor disqualified, bad paid, with long workdays, beyond big number of persons that live informally in the sector. Consequently, the question that delineated to problematic of this research was: which the conditions and relations of in force work in the tourist activity, in the segment of lodging, of the coast nucleus of Canoa Quebrada/Ceará? This is a quantitative study, carried out through documentary and bibliographical research, and finalized by field work substantiated in the application of questionnaires with workers of the segment of lodging of the local tourist activity. As a result of empirical research, it was found that a substantial proportion of jobs in the locality is temporary (due to seasonal variation of the activity), a significant number of employment contracts that are concluded verbally, the remuneration is situated in negligible level of social reproduction, and working hours are flexible depending on the occupation in demand, which denotes a certain conformity with the reality of underemployment of many small tourist cities of northeastern Brazil.
