Áreas protegidas, uso e ocupação do solo, qualidade de vida e turismo no litoral norte paulista: algumas reflexões sobre o município de Ubatuba

Abstract:
The northern seaboard of the State of São Paulo is made up of the strip of land that extends from the Bertioga canal to Ubatuba, permeating the municipalities of São Sebastião, Ilhabela, and Caraguatatuba. Has 164 beaches long and rich biodiversity. Most of the Mata Atlântica is located in the northern seaboard, but the native vegetation there are only 8% of its original cover. The objective of this article is to analyze some of the environmental and cultural transformations that occurred on this coast, especially in the municipality of Ubatuba, in recent decades due to the opening of roads, land speculation, mass tourism, among the most significant, and a new territorial configurations, have been designed from the regulations of the Environmental Conservation Units in region. It is believed that all these transformations interfere with the quality of life and forms of organization of the city population, mainly the caiçaras (traditional people). These reflections have empirical support research carried out on this coast, supported by Fundação de Amparo a Pesquisa do estado de São Paulo for the period 2005 to 2009. The focus was on strategies methodological literature, refers to historical and geographical documents, participant observation of everyday life of residents and their organizational strategies, qualitative interviews with representatives of local government, with residents and community leaders.
