Os espaços obscuros da cidade turística: um estudo preliminar na Praia de Ponta Negra em Natal/RN

Resumo

Este artigo possui como objetivo geral compreender, sob a ótica da chamada “Geografia Cultural” e arcabouços teóricos auxiliares, o tipo de relação existente entre turismo e espaços urbanos, tendo como foco as representações sociais advindas após a implementação da atividade nestes contextos sociais. Trata-se de um artigo teórico, construído a partir da problematização sobre formas simbólicas de segregação espacial, fundamentalmente através da idéia de “cidade maldita” desenvolvida por Sandra Jatahy Pesavento (1997) e de “urbanismo de representação”, presente em Célia Ferraz de Souza (1997). A atividade turística sob a ótica do residente se constitui empiricamente como o foco destas alterações espaciais e da forma como estas mudanças geram no imaginário social imagens do “obscuro” em determinados espaços para alguns grupos sociais, em especial aqueles que se tornaram (supostamente) segregados após a emergência da atividade. A Praia de Ponta Negra, localizada em Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, é o objeto de motivação e de investigação preliminar deste breve trabalho.

Abstract:

This article possess as objective generality to understand, under the optics of the call “Cultural Geography” and theoretical support auxiliary, the type of existing relation between tourism and urban space, having as focus the social representations after happened the implementation of the activity in these social contexts. One is about a theoretical article, constructed from the problematização on symbolic forms of space segregation, basically through the idea of “cursed city” developed for Sandra Jatahy Pesavento (1997) and of “urbanism of representation”, gift in Célia Ferraz de Souza (1997). The tourist activity under the optics of the resident if constitutes as the focus of these space alterations and the form as these changes generate in imaginary social the images of the “obscure one” in determined spaces for some social groups, in special those that if had become (supposedly) after segregated the emergency of the activity. The Beach of Ponta Negra, located in Natal, RN, is the object of motivation and preliminary inquiry of this briefing work.
